APSARA Authority Reminds Drivers of Parking Protocol

ANGKOR: The APSARA Authority issued a notice to drivers in the Angkor Park, especially tuk-tuk drivers, to respect parking rules to maintain public order.

It said that parking in unauthorized areas, such as sidewalks, not only sets a bad example, but that it also causes traffic congestion on the roads, which can lead to accidents.

Public Order agent Neou Chenda said that although many drivers of cars and tuk-tuks carrying tourists follow instructions and park properly, the drivers of some cars, especially tuk-tuks, still refuse to cooperate with the authorities to help maintain public order. Some tuk-tuk drivers still pick up visitors on the sidewalks, which are off-limits, while others park their at the entrances and exits.

She also noted an issue with shopkeepers crowding customers and forcing them to buy their products. Some have been heard using inappropriate language against customers who refuse to buy. She said such behavior is unethical and leads to disappointed tourists.

The APSARA Authority urged all drivers to understand and cooperate with the public order agents by parking legally and maintaining order in addition to raising the values of the Khmer people to be worthy of the famous World Heritage Site.

It also reminded tourists to help keep the environment clean by properly disposing of waste in the parks.
